Asiaone recently published an article https://www.asiaone.com/lifestyle/foetus-fallopian-tube-cost-nearly-her-life-ectopic-pregnancy-cheyenne-mathilda. I have a few observations on ectopic pregnancies all ladies should be aware of:
- The situation described in the article is actually quite typical of how ectopic pregnancies present. By doing certain blood tests, we may sometimes be able to gauge the risk of an ectopic pregnancy early, before it can even be seen on an ultrasound scan.Hence it is important to see your gynae as soon as you test positive for pregnancy, and not wait till a few weeks later (something the older generation will ask you to do!).
- Most insurance companies in Singapore do not cover pregnancy-related complications. Even if they do, it may be for rare conditions we rarely encounter, with a lot of criteria and exclusion clauses. It is important to read the fine print and to discuss with your gynae if necessary before committing to that policy.
